from Amsterdam to Bruges on bike

June 6 to 13, 2024

This trip is a bike ride between two countries: Holland and Belgium. Starting from Amsterdam, the famous metropolis with its canals, museums and many busy streets, the week ahead of us will be quite varied and full of beauty.

In Holland, the fortified historic towns we cycle through are peaceful and allow us to enjoy moments of relaxation and well-being. The famous windmills of Kinderdijk are a must-see. The province of Zeeland, its islands with beautiful sandy beaches, and the Belgian coastline are super pleasant. During the trip, as well as lots of greenery, we'll see plenty of water. We'll also cycle through picturesque villages with beautiful monuments, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This trip is also a culinary experience, with Flemish delicacies, Belgian beer, cheese and waffles, as well as lots of fresh seafood. Everything your heart and appetite could wish for!

We cross the Dutch-Belgian border and the journey ends in the city known for its canals as the Venice of the North: beautiful Bruges. In 2000, the historic center of Bruges was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 1: Arrival in Amsterdam!

We have arrived in Amsterdam, the wonderful city of bicycles, but also of art and lots of history. Amsterdam is a vibrant city and it is the city of bicycles. Everyone has one. Or two. Or more. Bicycles are used for entertainment, but also as the main means of transportation in the city.

At around 5 pm we'll meet our guide at the hotel reception and set off on a walking city tour with the local guide.

At 8 pm we will have our welcome dinner with delicious local dishes!

There is so much to discover in Amsterdam. If you wish, we will be happy to book an additional night here before we start our trip, so that you can better explore the Dutch capital (additional cost).

Day 2: Amsterdam – Gouda

On your first cycling day, you will roam through the green heart of the Netherlands. In this vast natural area, alternating between towns and picturesque villages, you will find everything that is so typical of Holland: cheese, windmills, grazing cows, historic country estates and quaint farms where old craftsmanship still prevails.

The stage destination Gouda is not only known for its delicious cheese - you should also try the syrup waffles here. A walk in the city centre with its many historic buildings is a must. Passear no centro da cidade com suas inúmeras edificações históricas é um must.

Distance: 70 km

Day 3: Gouda – Dordrecht

Today you will discover the impressive windmills of Kinderdijk. These 19 buildings are among the most photographed motifs in Holland. In the three museum windmills, you can learn all kinds of interesting facts about their origins.

You'll also be impressed by this countryside so rich in water, historic drawbridges and beautiful streams. Contrast this with the hustle and bustle of Dordrecht: in Holland's oldest city, there are more than 1,000 monuments to admire, and there's always something going on in the picturesque alleys of the city center.

Distance: 45 km

Day 4: DORDRECHT – Zierikzee

Today’s stage takes you to De Biesbosch National Park; a unique labyrinth of small rivers and streams stretching over 8,000 hectares. In this water kingdom, you can observe numerous bird species as well as beavers. The tranquillity of the untouched nature guarantees calmness and deceleration.

Willemstad is your next overnight stop. The historic fortress town has hardly changed since 1585.

Distance: 60 km

Day 5: Willemstad – Zierikzee

Comida mariscos Bruges Amst - Bruges

The first stretch of today’s tour takes you cross over to the province of North Brabant.

Today you'll find beaches, sunshine and delicious food on every corner and there's no shortage of opportunities to stop for a swim before you reach Zeeland.

In Zierikzee, there are many more monuments to admire and shopping fans will find several small boutiques here.

Distance: 60 km

Day 6: Zierikzee – Vlissingen

We will spend the day in the province of Zeeland, whose rich nature and long history are sure to amaze you. Beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters accompany us along our route.

Culinary delights include fresh mussels and crabs from the sea, and those interested in art and culture will find numerous museums.

In the maritime town of Vlissingen, you can watch the sun set during an evening stroll along the sea promenade.

Distance: 45 km

Day 7: Vlissingen – Bruges

In the morning, a ferry will take us back to the mainland. If it's nice and warm, you'll be tempted to take a dip in the sea off these vast sandy beaches.

In Knokke-Heist, we'll leave the coast and cycle through the beautiful landscape of West Flanders. The final destination of your cycling trip is Bruges.

The Venice of the North will enchant you with its historic center and canals. Located in the middle of the beautiful Flanders countryside, Bruges is the most attractive city in the region. In 2000, the historic city center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Distance: 65 km

Day 8: Departure

After breakfast our trip comes to an end.

If you wish, you can still take a boat trip through the canals of this beautiful city before you leave it. Or simply stroll around the city, take a walk in the market, or even climb the tower for a beautiful view of the city.

We can also extend your trip through this amazing country, Belgium!

This route is mainly flat, on paved cycle paths and minor roads with little traffic. Only when entering and leaving towns should you expect some heavy traffic. The trip is suitable for cycling beginners and even families with children.

Level of difficulty: 2

1 = easy; 2 = easy-middle; 3 = middle; 4 = demanding; 5 = sportive

This trip, as described above, is subject to changes without prior notice, if necessary, for various reasons.
