Slovenia, from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea!

June 20 - 27, 2024

Marked in red on the map, bordered by northern Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, and the Adriatic Sea to the south, Slovenia is a small country full of charms.

Whether it is the vibrant and young capital Ljubljana, with its lovely historical center and lively and beautiful people, or the medieval towns, whether it is Lakes Bled and Bohinj, with the surrounding Triglav mountains, ideal for outdoor activities, the alpine region with its lush nature, Slovenia will really surprise you! There' s also the incredible Soča River and the curious caves of Skocjan,

Since all travelling starts with good food and good wines, let's check out this super foodie destination with dishes marked by the diversity of local ingredients and the wave of haute cuisine sweeping the country.

We picked the most beautiful routes for you to enjoy this amazing bike trip.

We go through mountain passes, valleys and enchanting paths that cross rivers, fields and vineyards. The roads wind through high Alpine peaks, through valleys and along paved routes, often through dense forests, past beautiful emerald-green lakes and through medieval towns to the Adriatic coastline.

You don't have to think about which way to go, rather you will be able to enjoy the most breathtaking views in this relatively short time, on the way from the Alps to the sea.

On some days the routes are uphill, so we recommend renting an electric bike. The level of difficulty to perform can be adjusted on the electric bike, which has up to 4 gears, and gives you the option to increase or decrease your effort. If you still don't want to or can't pedal anymore, our van will be there to transfer you.

Afterwards we will have our welcome dinner.

Day 3: Kranjska Gora - Vršič - Bovec

3 turistas de bicicleta no vale do rio Soca com os Alpes ao fundo, na Eslovênia

In the morning we set off from Kranjska Gora (806 m), past Lake Jasna towards the Predil pass (1156 m). O lago de Predil é parada obrigatória.

Predil is also the famous pass on the border between Italy and Slovenia. We'll drive a few kilometers through Italy and at the top of the Passo di Predil, we'll enter Slovenia again. Of course, you can do this route in the van if you prefere.

At the top, you can admire the surrounding beauty of the highest mountain peaks and, in good weather, we'll have our picnic with this wonderful view.

We now continue down this scenic road and arrive in Bovec, one of Slovenia's centers for extreme outdoor sports.

The small town of Bovec offers warmth and tranquility. In the evenings, there are a few bars that liven up the town in a young and relaxed atmosphere.

Night free.

  • Distance: 48 km
  • Uphill: 580 m
  • Downhill: 970 m
  • Activity level: 8/10

Day 4: Bovec

This day is free as we will sleep in the same city again.

The Soča River is considered one of the most beautiful rivers on the planet. Nicknamed "The Emerald Beauty", this gorgeous river has been the subject of many well-known poems and films, and has certainly inspired many visitors. The river Soča, of rare beauty, maintains an emerald green or even bluish color throughout its length, flowing 138 kilometers down to the Adriatic Sea.

Here in the Lepena Valley you can admire the beautiful canyons of the Soča River. Take the opportunity to find a quiet spot near the water and dip your toes in the Soča River. A lot of peace! It's optional, but it's beautiful and not to be missed.

Options for activities will not be lacking, and you can choose from a variety of sporting adventures to enjoy this unspoiled nature: rafting, canyoning on the Soča River, zip-lining over the valley, etc. (extra cost with the local agency)

2° noite em Bovec

Day 5: Bovec - Goriška brda

After breakfast, we left Bovec and cycled to Kobarid.

The road takes us along the Soča River, a breathtaking landscape that always follows the most beautiful river on the planet. We arrive at Napoleon's Bridge, between gorges and emerald waters.

There we pick up our bikes again and make another ascent to the beautiful and rich land of Goriška Brda, also called Slovenian Tuscany: fruit, vineyards, hills and churches all around. Beautiful!

Smartno is a tiny, charming village surrounded by vineyards and today we're going wine tasting.

  • Distance: 48 km
  • Uphill: 660 m
  • Downhill: 750 m
  • Activity level: 8/10

Today we're going to explore the region in the best possible way. Beautiful places, hospitable people and good food are sure to abound. We will also probably have the chance to do an olive oil tasting and meet one of the many beekeepers in the region and their high quality products.

2nd night in Smartno

  • Distance: 35 km
  • Uphill: 490 m
  • Downhill: 580 m

Day 7: Goriška Brda - Škocjan - Piran

After breakfast we go by van to the Škocjan Caves, a system of caves and underground passages more than 6 km long and more than 200 m deep. We visit this phenomenon from the UNESCO list of natural heritage sites. It is quite stunning!

After the tour, we took our bikes and rode towards Lipica for a visit to the world-famous horse stables. This is a magnificent place. We'll have a lovely picnic here, prepared with great refinement in the pastures of Lipica.

We continue cycling towards the town of Koper on the Adriatic Sea, and from there along the beautiful Slovenian coastline to Piran or Portoroz.

The ancient little town of Piran is a pearl of the Mediterranean. With Venetian-style houses, squares, and narrow streets, Piran owes its charm mainly to the salt trade from the once numerous salt pans nearby. Piran is one of the best preserved historical cities in Europe.

Our farewell dinner will take place in a seafood restaurant, directly overlooking the Adriatic Sea!
