Via Claudia Augusta by bike

Start: every first Tuesday of the month from May to September
Special dates may be available upon request

Let us open with a little bit of history!

About 2000 years ago, General Drusus, adopted son of roman emperor Augustus, in the course of his military career, perceived the utmost importance of a good and rapid connection between the northernmost provinces of the Roman Empire and the Mediterranean.

For this reason, it was more than necessary to build a passageway that would connect the northern and southern parts of the empire, until then divided by the Alps. So they built the Via Claudia Augusta. Its construction took 60 years and is considered a masterpiece of ancient engineering and an exemplary showcase of Roman construction. The Romans thus created the first true road over the Alps, through the Fern Pass and the Rhaetian Pass.

Today, the Via Claudia Augusta not only offers cyclists one of the most impressive and breathtaking scenic routes in the Alps, but also provides the opportunity to experience the beauty of the legacy left by earlier Roman rule.

If you want to pedal the Via Claudia Augusta from its great beginnings to its very end, from the Danube to the Adriatic, we organize your trip from Donauwörth in Germany to Quarto d'Altino in Italy.

But we have made all our offers flexible and provide different options of where to start or end your trip.

As possible starting points we have the cities of Donauworth, Augsburg, Füssen or Bolzano. And in addition to the cities of Bolzano, Verona and Quarto d'Altino, we also offer the option of ending your tour at Lago di Garda, although it is not part of the Via Claudia Augusta.

If you wish to traverse the entire Via Claudia Augusta without too much effort, we also organize transfers for you across the mountains.

We hope you enjoy our offers and would be delighted to take you for a ride along the Via Claudia Augusta and help you with the services we provide.

  • Use of Via Claudia transfer/shuttle for the two mountain crossings, from Reutte or Landeck and between Trento and Levico Terme
